Established on April 1, 1922, the school was officially named Chia-Yi Girls' High School. On December 5, 1945, it received official authorization to adopt the name Provincial Chia-Yi Girls' High School. In 1968, following the extension of compulsory education from six to nine years, the junior high school division was progressively discontinued, and the school thereafter functioned exclusively as a senior high school.
